In a lawsuit with national implications, Becket Becnel represents a St. Charles Parish woman who sued Firestone for defective tires.
As reported from l'Observateur on September 9, 2000, "The woman, who is unidentified except for the name “Edythe,” was driving in her 1997 Ford Explorer along Interstate 49 in Rapides Parish when the tread of her left rear tire unraveled, according to the lawsuit filed this week in 40th Judicial District Court in Edgard. The suit lists as its defendants Bridgestone-Firestone, Inc., Firestone Tire & Service Center of LaPlace, Ford Motor Co. and Lamarque Ford. According to the lawsuit, the disintegration of her tire caused her vehicle togo into the median, back across the pavement, and up an embankment, from where the vehicle tumbled, rolling over three times."
